| Description | Polymer clay is the perfect medium for creating these three dimensional mosaic shrines. In this technique driven class, students will be making all of the component parts of their shrines by stamping into clay and making expressive tiles that reflect their own personalities. The shrines have a small recessed area where a three dimensional object of significance can be placed. This space also allows for another opportunity to explore additional mixed media techniques. We will cover rubber-stamping, painting, embedding, collage, transfers, embossing, gold leafing, beading and mosaic-ing. This is the class where you get to use all that stuff you’ve been collecting over the years!
Student Supply List 6 packages of either Premo or Sculpey III polymer clay-bring 3 of the same colors, (I prefer the darker colors) two others can be of your choosing, and the last can be a translucent clay for doing transfers) A rolling pin or acrylic roller-even a piece of PVC pipe works. Assorted paintbrushes, to include a fine detail brush. Small bottle of Weldbond Glue Rubberstamps- if you have any favorites you want to use, bring them, otherwise I will bring lots with me! **Ephemera and doo-dads! Bring some things like metal charms, jewelry parts, Milagros, buttons, rhinestones to embed into clay & collage paper to personalize your Icon and make it your own. See pictures on my website for ideas. Glass mosaic tiles-A small bag or two of less than one inch commercial tile to fill in some of the spaces on your shrine. Bring a small (less than 2 x 2 inches) object, photo or special momento to place inside your shrine. (optional) A class kit containing the polymer clay (black, bronze & gold & white), pvc roller, weldbond glue, paint brushes, mosaic tiles and miscellaneous doo-dads is available for $25 |
