Event description:

Sketch journaling looks easy and fun. And it can be if you understand a few basics of

drawing, perspective, watercolor, lettering and page design.
In this 8-week course we will examine the elements that most commonly go into
building sketch journal pages and then study them one at a time.
Level: Beginner to Intermediate level
Time and Date: 8 Thursdays beginning January 10, 2019 ( Jan 10, 17, 24, 31, Feb 7, 14, 21, 28)

Supplies:
• Sketch Journal: I will be using a Stillman & Birn Beta sketchbook (Softcover 8x10). You will use
this journal to build pages outside of class every week and bring the book back to class for
review. You need can use a different book it just needs to be one in which watercolor will not
bleed through the pages.
• Practice and Notes Journal : I will be using the Stillman and Birn Beta softcover book 5.5 x
3.5. This book will be used in our 8 weekly sessions to practice, test and take notes.
• Patette: I use a compact travel palette
• Watercolors: I will use the following 8 pigments, all from Daniel Smith. I highly recommend
using artist’ grade watercolors.

Manganese Blue Hue, Hansa Yellow Light, Quinacridone Rose, Ultramarine Blue, Quinacri-
done Gold, Transparent Pyrrol Orange, Phthalo Green (blue shade), Burnt Sienna Light.

• Brushes: one or two round watercolor brushes with a good tip.
• Pencil: HB, or 2b
• Kneaded eraser
• Pen with waterproof ink: Some good options include Copic Multiliner Pen, Sakura Pigma
Micron Pen or a fountain pen with waterproof ink.
• Paper towels or cotton rag for cleanup
• Water container
