The Tree of Life Creative Retreat with Brian Crimmins, Andrea Chebeleu and Minette Riordan

Reconnect to the wonder, magic, and symbolism of trees for three artful days in community with other creatives.

Do you have a favorite tree, a memorable tree story or do you simply enjoy being among towering trees?

During this autumn retreat, we will celebrate the changing of the leaves, cooler temperatures and the changing of our personal season as we reflect on years past and times to come. During this retreat we will use the metaphor and symbol of trees to explore our roots, branches and leaves. We love how trees mirror our own personal growth and unique spirits.

While we can't gather in person just yet, we will be connecting on Zoom and inviting each of you to share your favorite trees in your yard, neighborhood or community with us! We will invite you into our homes and creative spaces and gardens, too. Imagine that we are all gathering in an a gorgeous arboretum with many trees of the world represented.

"Just as the branches of a tree strengthen and grow upwards to the sky, we too grow stronger, striving for greater knowledge, wisdom and new experiences as we move through life. All trees begin life in the same way, yet as they grow older, they weather nature’s forces and develop in their own unique and beautiful ways."

The Tree of Life Retreat is for you if:

  • You are inspired by trees and nature and would love to incorporate this symbolism into your art.
  • You've felt a deep connection to a certain type of tree or to a place of trees.
  • You are longing for connection and community with other creatives and committed time and space to create.
  • You enjoy exploring new methods of creative expression.
  • You love creating meaningful works of art that are a unique expression of you.
  • You want to learn new creative techniques and play with new tools and supplies.

The Tree of Life retreat is going to be very unique. Rather than a series of individual techniques and classes, each of the lessons taught by Andrea, Brian and Minette will be intertwined and connected. While each artist will contribute several unique lessons that can be used over and over, you will also take everything you learn from each of us and turn it into one magical, mystical piece of art that serves as a reminder and celebration of all you'll learn through this experience. Just like a tree grows, our lessons will flow through the roots, trunk, branches, leave and fruit of the trees you create.

Instructor Info

Andrea Chebeleu

Andrea Chebeleu is the artist and entrepreneur behind A Work of Heart Studio.  A creative innovator from a very young age, Andrea enjoys a challenge and most of all figuring out how to make art with what’s on hand.  As an art instructor, her greatest joy comes from leading students through a process that, on the surface, looks complex but is achieved in simple steps.  Andrea's students appreciate her knowledge of materials, techniques and "try it and see what happens" attitude.  Creativity comes from trying and retrying.  Andrea takes the fear of trying in her approach of "first, not only."  While it may be the first time you’ve tried this, it’s not your only time.  Students are empowered to freely and playfully experiment without expectations.

Dr. Minette Riordan

Dr. Minette Riordan is a modern day Renaissance woman: transformational artist, writer, award-winning entrepreneur and advocate for creativity as essential to the well-being of all people and our planet. She holds a doctorate from Stanford University as well as multiple coaching certifications including her most recent certification as a Creative Depth Coach.

She is a Certified Zentangle® Teacher, JourneyCircles™ facilitator, SoulCollage® facilitator. She has taught at Andrea's studio, at Tangle U and hosted many of her own creative workshops over the past decade.

Life took her by surprise in 2017 when people started asking her to buy her paintings. “I’m not an artist,” she said. This was a turning point in her life and her career. Since then she has been selling art and teaching others to courageously own their artistry and build their creative business through her coaching, online programs and live events.

Minette has fond memories of a beautiful mimosa tree in her front yard of her childhood home. She and her brother spent hours playing beneath the branches and pink blooms. It was a magical wonderland!

Brian Crimmins

Brian Crimmins is an artist, writer and Certified Zentangle® Teacher. On the heels of graduating with a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from University of Central Florida in 2014, he discovered Zentangle® through a class at a local art store.

Since becoming a CZT in 2016, Brian has twice been on the faculty of Tangle U. He’s taught online and in-person workshops in his community and has exhibited his own Zentangle-inspired art in museums and galleries in the Central Florida area.

Brian is the author of Zentangle(R) Dingbatz: Patterns & Projects for Dynamic Tangled Ornaments & Decorations, available on Amazon.comHe runs an active Facebook group, “Dynamic Dingbatz with Zentangle®”.

Growing up in northern California’s Monterey Bay area, Brian developed a love for trees, the ocean, the forest, and nature from an early age. From the lone cypress of Pebble Beach, to the giant redwoods farther north and the mossy fresh Muir Woods near San Francisco – these are all fond memories of trees as a child. “There is a history, an ancient wisdom, and a strength that trees carry with them,” says Brian, “and I’m excited to explore their symbolism and significance through creative arts in the Tree of Life workshop!”
